Blast at Roxburgh Park

As the winner of the “Celebrating Cricket in Schools” category at Cricket Australia’s National Community Cricket awards, Wayne Schultz was acknowledged for his enormous contribution to bringing cricket to the schoolyard.

In his time as a PE teacher at Roxburgh Park Primary School in Melbourne’s northern suburbs, Wayne has a tireless advocate for the benefits of cricket for his students and local community.

Among Wayne’s many accomplishments, he delivered HPE programs; created inter-curricular lessons combining maths and cricket; organised teams for inter-school sports and gala days; helped deliver the Mascots Challenge and Sporting Schools programs; initiated inclusion and diversity outcomes and been a champion for cricket in schools on social media platforms.

As a result, there was an enormous growth in both the engagement of students with cricket and in the levels of participation and growth of skill acquisition among students.

Another key initiative Wayne championed was the Woolworths Cricket Blast after-school program he created in the grounds of Roxburgh Park Primary School.
